We've had an exciting night in our house. We put Lauren to bed and Hannah was all ready for bed, but having a hard time settling down. She was jumping on our bed and singing to herself when she feel off our bed into Jon's nightstand. It was one of those slow motion things where you try to catch her and aren't exactly sure what happened in the first place.
Of course, the crying started immediately, and Jon was reprimanding her for jumping on the bed after we'd told her to stop. Then I saw her mouth and it looked like part of her tooth was missing. We jumped into action mode and I examined her mouth. Indeed, about 1/2 of one of her front teeth was missing. A quick sweep of her mouth and we found the little piece and I was running downstairs to grab the dentist's phone number while Jon got a wet washcloth for the small cut on her chin.... I called the dentist and he said he could meet us at the office in about 20 minutes to take a look. After I hung up the phone, Jon noticed that her chin was still bleeding. I took a look and it looked like a pretty deep cut - enough that I saw the fat under her skin, so I made a quick call back to the dentist to tell him we needed to head to urgent care first. He told us to just call back when we were done. Since Lauren was in bed, Jon stayed home with her while I took Hannah (in her princess jammies) to Urgent Care.
On the way to Urgent Care, Hannah asked me if this was a special treat since she was getting to stay up late! That kid is so funny!! She was being a real trooper on the way to Urgent Care and asked me a lot of questions about what they would do, if she'd get a shot, and if she would get donuts when we were done : ) At Urgent Care they decided that she did need stitches and used a numbing agent on her face. Hannah was really concerned about the numbing creme since it was in a syringe, but the nurse showed her there was no needle, so it wasn't like a shot. After Hannah realized it wasn't a shot, she was okay. The picture above was taken while we were back in the waiting room while we were waiting for Hannah's face to get all numb. She enjoyed her night out since she got to watch TV and play the I-Pad. She got 5 stitches, which they referred to as "string band-aids" and Hannah was great when they put them in. The needle was attached to the string,
and the nurse demonstrated how the clamp would make a noise, so Hannah wouldn't be scared. They were great to her and she was so well behaved.
At 10pm, we headed over to our dentist's office, where we met him (and his wife, since they were at a Christmas party before we'd called). Hannah wanted to know why "Miss Peggy" (her hygienist) wasn't there....which he thought was pretty funny. He kept asking me if I was sure that she was only 3 years old because she was better than most adults! She sat there like a champ. Dr. Holowicki "painted" her teeth with a paintbrush (to clean away any debris), which Hannah thought was funny. He then made her a new tooth out of composite -- in about 20 minutes. He said he was glad we brought her home because it was really close to exposing the nerve, so she would have been in a lot of pain within 24-48 hours. We were home, with Hannah looking as good as new by 10:30pm. Quite an exciting 2 hour time period, I'll say!
One of the best parts of this whole story is that earlier today our cleaning lady, Lisa, was at our house with some gifts for the girls. One of the things she brought Hannah was a special box for you to put a tooth in while you lose it to put out for the Tooth Fairy. Jon told me that Hannah immediately ran upstairs, saying she was going to work on "one of these teeth right now" so the Tooth Fairy would come. Jon and Lisa talked to her about how it would be awhile before the Tooth Fairy came, so she shouldn't try to get any of her teeth out. WELL, needless to say, the Tooth Fairy did have to come to our house and she made a partial deposit of 50 cents for Hannah's tooth chip.

Julie and Jon,
50 Cents?? Your daughter's tooth fairy is not keeping up with inflation. The going rate is $1.00! That is for a run-of-the-mill loss of a tooth. But under special pain and suffering (like this case) it is at least $2.00!
