Cereal

Hannah's first taste of rice cereal...
She doesn't quite know what to think,
But she wants to hold the spoon herself!
She likes to chew the spoon!

Hannah had her 6-month checkup yesterday and is doing great! She has bumped up from the 3rd percentile in weight all the way up to between the 10th-15th percentile. She is up to 13 lbs, 3 oz. Her daddy's genes are also taking over, as she is 25 1/4 inches long (50th percentile). Our pediatrician is trilled with her progress. She also suggested that we start Hannah on cereal, since she is over 6 months. Our pediatrician uses a "hybrid" of actual and adjusted ages when it comes to starting foods, so we're giving it a shot and seeing how it goes. Our doctor wants her to eat cereal by 7 months....

So last night for dinner after Hannah nursed she got some rice cereal....but if you looked at the bowl, it was like just giving her spoonfuls of milk. 4 Tbsp. of milk & 1 Tbsp. of cereal is really watery! Hannah didn't quite know what to do with the cereal - plenty ended up on her bib, but my independent little girl wanted to hold the spoon herself the whole time! This certainly adds to our time at the dinner table (both in length and entertainment!).

Self feeding, get a good mop (or your Dog) ready. It's great to hear her doing so well. As for a hint I was given. Give her a spoon to hold and play with then feed her with a different one. That will keep her hand busy, let you feed her and as time goes on let her start feeding herself.
