VBS

Our church's Vacation Bible School is for kids ages 4 years old through 6th grade. BUT, we discovered that if you are working at VBS, they offer a nursery and a 2-3 classroom. At the last minute, Jon really felt like maybe he should help this year and the day before it started, he found out there was a need for helpers in some of the grade levels. So, Hannah was able to attend in the 2-3 year old room. We weren't sure that she would be able to handle the classroom setting, but she did GREAT. The teacher told Jon that she sat and listened and was really good all week. Every night when I'd get home from work she'd tell me all about what she did and she loved to talk about "Bible school." In the morning she was excited to get up and get dressed and she was practically dragging us out the door!

The theme this year was "Gold Rush" - our church is a "pilot church" for the curriculum, so we are able to buy a great program at a discount.

On the biggest day, I think Jon told me there were over 200 kids in attendance. The 2-3 year old class sat in the front row during the drama and signing. Jon said that Hannah just sat and stared and wasn't too into the singing and motions, but there was a lot to take in! The drama team (which included our Youth Pastor (and Jon's friend), Steve)

Jon said that Hannah took big naps after every day of VBS. It really wore her out, but she loved it. Jon also loved being a classroom aide -- he thought it was much better than running games like he did the last time he worked. As a result, he'll probably try to work VBS next year so Hannah can go again. I'm so glad we've got such a great program, right in our "backyard."

On Friday evening our church put on a VBS carnival, which was TONS of fun. The evening started off with an OSU football player sharing his testimony and the kids sang a few songs, but then they turned everyone loose in the parking lot. The church had a free picnic dinner - hot dogs, fruit, veggies, chips, cookies, and then all sorts of carnival activities. Hannah especially liked the petting zoo and getting some cotton candy and a snow cone (sugar overload, anyone?!). But, she didn't like the dunk tank -- when she knocked down the youth group kid in the tank, she started to cry! She also refused to ride the pony, which surprised us, since she loves animals so much. Ultimately, she was a little too little for a lot of the activities, but she was still able to have a good time while we were there. It was a great way to wrap up a fun week!
