Uncle Daniel has always been the first aunt/uncle to meet his new nieces and nephew on my side of the family. When Liam and Peyton were each born, he made the trip from NY to DC within their first month (and I didn't get to meet either of them until they were 2 or 3 months old)....he also made the trip out here and beat Karen by less than 24 hours to see Hannah when she was a baby.....and now he's been the first to see Lauren too. He was worried that we'd show up in WV last week for Thanksgiving and he wouldn't be the "first" this time, but his streak remains intact.
Daniel is here to visit for the week so he can get his car worked on, see some of his college friends, meet Lauren, and play with Hannah (oh yeah, and go to the Penguins/Blue Jackets hockey game.....). Hannah was so excited to see her uncle that she was talking about him non-stop all day before he showed up. When he walked through the door last night, she was in our room finishing up her shower and getting ready for bed and Daniel could hear her yelling "Uncle Daniel's here. I have to see him." He certainly received a warm welcome!

Note: Since I'm actually posting this minutes after Daniel left after almost a week with us (despite what the "post date" says), I'm happy to report that Hannah LOVED her visit with Uncle Daniel. They played together for hours every day. Daniel sat through lots of "picnics," fort-building, games of hide and seek, "chase me," and countless stories. He is a great uncle and really good sport to spend hours sitting on the floor behind a chair in our family room..... Hannah would ask about him every morning and she had to see him before going to the sitter's house (even if that meant waking him up!). She also insisted that he sit beside her at meals and that he read her stories before bed. Daniel also got to spend some time holding Lauren and we've deemed him the "baby whisperer" since she got her to settle down and stop crying a number of times. It's a shame that Daniel lives 10 hours away, but it is nice that he's able to spend such quality time with his nieces when his work schedule permits.
